At the meeting held on 3 July 2019, the Traffic and Transport Services Commission decided to make legislation for the inspection and detection of drivers driving under the influence of drugs.
In its decision Commission stated that “The drivers driving under the influence of drugs are committing an offence under the Law on Motor Vehicles, Road and Traffic and the Commission decided to make the necessary legislation and procure the necessary technical equipment to allow the Police Force to carry out inspections and detect these offences”.
Kemal Bağzıbağlı, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Public Works and Transportation, who was the chairman of the Commission meeting, stated that the necessary legal works will be completed promptly by the commission to overcome this important shortcoming and will be submitted to the Council of Ministers to discourage the use of vehicles under the influence of drugs and to increase traffic safety.
