WORKS ON GİRNE-DEĞİRMENLİK ROAD PLANNED TO BE COMPLETED BY TUESDAY

Minister of Public Works and Transportation Tolga Atakan announced that works on Girne-Değirmenlik Road (aka the mountain road) is planned to be completed by Tuesday. He said with the completion of the works, limitation brought to vehicles will be lifted.

The TRNC government decided last week to ban vehicles carrying less than nine passengers to use the road between 9 am and 7 pm starting from March 5, 2018. At the same time, heavy vehicles weighing 5 tons or more are banned from using the road betwen 7pm and 9am.

Works on the road will continue through the weekend where asphalt will be ripped and new asphalt laid at spots where the deformation on the road is causing road safety concerns.

On the other hand, Minister Atakan also announced that the works on the Girne-Lefkoşa main road will also continue at nights where workers will be working in shifts. This will shorten the time it will take for the 4.8km section of the road to be completed sooner than planned, which was the end of May this year.
