Amateur Maritime Training System, with an aim to make 1 in every 25 persons an amateur sailor, held its first training sessions in Gazimağusa’a Rauf Raif Denktaş Culture and Congress Centre yesterday.
248 people participated in the training organized by Ministry of Public Works and Transportation of TRNC in cooperation with Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Turkey and with the technical support of Istanbul Technical University North Cyprus.
The training given by the trainer of the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure of Republic of Turkey, Esat Güzel was started at 14.00 with the opening speeches of Kemal Bağzıbağlı, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Public Works and Transportation, and Ahmet Selçuk Sert, the General Director of Marine and Inland Waters Regulation of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure.
Following the opening speeches, Ali Kurumahmut, the Minister’s Advisor of the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Turkey, made a presentation on maritime law and amateur sailor training. This was followed by the training program and the examination.
The Minister of Tourism and Environment Mr. Ünal Üstel and the former minister Mr. Fikri Ataoğlu and the Turkish Cypriot Peace Forces Chief of Staff Mr. Recep Akpınar attended the event
Amateur Maritime Certificate will be given to those who succeeded the exam held after the training. Amateur Maritime Certificate holders, will be entitled to steer a motor boat with a maximum length of 24 meters, in the TRNC and Turkey.
