DRIVERS OF RENTAL VEHICLES WILL NO LONGER BE FINED FOR OUTDATED LICENCE PLATE OR MISSING DOCUMENTS

With the recently amended Regulation on Motor Vehicles and Traffic, individual owners or companies of rental vehicles will be fined in case the licence plate is in contrast with the law and in case of failure to show a valid MOT or a vehicle inspection document.

The amended regulation was published in the TRNC Official Gazette and came into force on August 1, 2018. With the change, the police will fine the individual owner or the company which owns the rental car, instead of the driver. The regulation also indicates that the licence plates of cars in general must be coherent with the regulation in question.

According to the amendment in the regulation on licence plates, licence plates of all vehicles must be changed with those coherent with the regulation by January 31, 2019. For rental cars, the final deadline to change the licence plates was July 2, 2018.
