The Traffic and Transport Services Commission held an extraordinary meeting, chaired by Public Works and Transport Ministry Undersecretary Kemal Bağzıbağlı, about the recently increasing road collisions involving pedestrians.
In the meeting, which took place at the Public Works and Transport Ministry yesterday, the Police General Directorate, associated ministers, local authorities and civil society groups discussed these types of collisions – that have resulted in heavy injuries and even death – and preventative measures.
It was decided that, as a first step, all municipalities will be requested to make pedestrian crossings, road lines and warning signs more visible.
Possible inspection mechanisms for the Police General Directorate Traffic Branch were then discussed.
In this framework, in the opinion that all stakeholders should take responsibility for traffic safety, the representatives actively discussed working on an application that would enable the public to immediately report any dangerous situations and any road problems to the necessary channels.
