A tender has been launched for the second phase of the Girne-Alsancak Dual Carriage Way, it was announced on Sunday.
The project which will cost ₺26m will be required to be completed in 180 working days.
The road once completed will ease traffic along the western side of the northern coastline.
Speaking on the issue, the Minister of Public Works and Transportation Erhan Arıklı said that work on the road which has stopped for some time will be completed using local funds.
“People living west of Girne have been losing time in traffic for a while because of the incomplete road, spending more fuel in the process. This problem will be solved a great deal once the dual carriage way is completed,” he said.
Arıklı also said that the traffic problem will be completely solved once the remaining section of the road from Alsancak to Geçitköy is also transformed into a dual carriage way.
He added that they were working on preparing the project for the next section.
The tender for the second phase includes infrastructure works, traffic safety signs and lighting as well as installation of water works and telecommunication lines.
