Minister of Public Works and Transportation Resmiye Canaltay attended the opening ceremony of the 1st Entrepreneurship Camp of the Cyprus Turkish Society of Women Entrepreneurs (GİKAD) Academy which took place at Acapulco Hotel in Catalköy.
In her speech at the opening ceremony, Minister Canaltay said that the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) was a young republic with a dynamic economy open to people and opportunities, heading towards a brighter future together with Motherland Turkey. She said the TRNC will be more successful with young women entrepreneurs.
Canaltay, who addressed a group of young successful women graduates from seven universities in the TRNC, said “You are graduates, you have a future, a future which can bring economic freedom to you, and prosperity for all. This goes through entrepreneurship.”
Canaltay said the country’s economy has its problems just like any other economy. “But we are aware of these problems, and we aim to tackle these problems with entrepreneurial mind-sets” she added.
“Being a woman may be perceived as an obstacle by many, when it comes to entrepreneurship. I am a live case of the contrary; As a woman, as an entrepreneur, as a mother and wife, I overcame the barriers of a business world dominated by men to set foot as a tourism entrepreneur. Of course there are always barriers waiting for you - an entrepreneurial career is not an exception. But you have the power, your ignited minds have the power to overcome any barrier set in front of you” the minister said.
