MINISTER CANALTAY: FOREIGN STUDENTS WILL NOT BE EXEMPT FROM QUARANTINE

Minister of Public Works and Transportation Resmiye Canaltay said the NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) limiting scheduled flights to the TRNC to two flights a day had been cancelled to allow foreign university students who are abroad to continue their education.

Minister Canaltay said the decision was adopted by the Council of Ministers on February 13, 2021 and added that foreign students entering the TRNC will not be exempt from compulsory quarantine and they would have to abide by Covid-19 restrictions.

Canaltay indicated that in order to protect public health, the whole process of bringing back the students will be coordinated jointly by the Ministry of Public Works and Transportation, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of National Education and Culture.

She said the Ministry of Health was responsible of general public health and the Ministry of Finance was responsible from the quarantine operations and added “if these ministries tell us that our quarantine capacity is full, our ministry will reintroduce flight limitations”.

The TRNC made preparations for the return of 17 thousand foreign students who are expected to graduate this year.
